Effective Date: April 1, 2026
Welcome to Echo ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Echo mobile application (the "App"). Your privacy matters to us. Please read this policy carefully.
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:
The table below summarizes what we collect, how we collect it, and the main ways we use it. Section 3 describes additional uses, including sharing with third-party AI and speech services as explained in Section 5.
| Category | Examples | How we collect it | Primary uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| User Content (text) | Drafts, pasted text, messages you want to reply to, writing samples for your style profile, style tags and instructions | You enter or paste it in the App; it is sent to our servers when you use a feature that requires processing | Provide replies, rewrites, corrections, and style features; optional processing by third-party AI as described in Section 5 |
| User Content (audio) | Voice recordings for transcription and compose-by-voice flows | You record in the App; audio is sent to our servers and then to our speech-to-text provider when you use those features | Transcribe speech to text and generate suggestions; processing by AssemblyAI as described in Section 5 |
| Account and subscription data | Account identifiers, subscription status, renewal dates, and transaction-related records from the app store | From Apple App Store or Google Play when you subscribe or sign in, and from our account systems if you create an account | Provide access, manage subscriptions, billing, and support |
| Usage and device data | Device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, aggregated feature usage | Automatically when you use the App (for example diagnostics and analytics we enable) | Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the App |
To provide replies, rewrites, style learning, and related features, we process the text and context you submit. If you use voice-based composition or transcription, we process audio and resulting transcripts as needed to deliver those features.
If you create an account or subscribe, we may collect identifiers associated with your account and transaction records as provided by the app store (for example, Apple App Store or Google Play), including subscription status and renewal dates.
We may collect technical and usage information such as device model, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and aggregated statistics about feature usage to operate and improve the App.
We use information for purposes including:
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their independent marketing.
Apple's App Store guidelines require that we not transmit your personal data to a third-party AI or speech service unless we clearly explain what is sent and who receives it, and unless we obtain your permission first.
In the App: Echo includes an in-app disclosure and consent step. Before your User Content is sent to a third-party AI provider for processing, the App shows what categories of data will be transmitted, identifies the provider by name, and asks you to confirm that you agree. We only send personal data to those services after you have given that consent (for example through onboarding or a feature-specific prompt). You can withdraw consent for future processing by discontinuing use of features that rely on those providers; contact us if you need help with data rights (Section 8).
This Privacy Policy: The detailed disclosures in Section 5 supplement what you see in the App. The in-app flow is what you interact with when using Echo; this document provides the same information in full for your records and does not replace those screens.
Echo uses independent service providers to run generative AI and speech-to-text processing. We identify each provider below, what data is sent to them, and why. These providers process data as processors or service providers on our instructions, not for their own unrelated purposes.
Who: OpenAI, LLC, which operates the OpenAI API (OpenAI Privacy Policy).
What we send: Depending on the feature you use, we transmit portions of your User Content and related instructions to OpenAI's API over encrypted connections. This may include: (a) text you want corrected, together with the selected correction style; (b) for reply suggestions, the incoming message text, optional sender label, your style instructions ("system prompt"), and optional reply style; (c) for style profiling, your writing samples; (d) for updating your style profile, your current style instructions and style tags; (e) for compose-by-voice, the transcript produced from your audio (see AssemblyAI below), plus your style instructions and optional sender or reply-style context. We use OpenAI's API with models such as GPT-4o mini (the exact model may be updated for performance or compliance).
Why: To generate corrected text, suggested replies, style profiles, and voice-based message suggestions you request inside the App.
Who: AssemblyAI, Inc., which provides cloud speech recognition (AssemblyAI Privacy Policy).
What we send: When you use compose-by-voice or similar features, we upload your audio file to AssemblyAI for transcription. The audio may contain your voice and anything you say.
Why: To convert your speech into text so we can generate message suggestions. The transcript may then be sent to OpenAI as described in Section 5.1.
We enter into agreements with OpenAI, AssemblyAI, and our other infrastructure providers that require them to protect personal data with safeguards appropriate to the processing, including limitations on use of your information for providing services to us. We require these providers to implement protections that are substantially similar or equivalent to the commitments we make in this Privacy Policy for the types of processing they perform on our behalf. We assess our vendors for security and privacy practices consistent with applicable law.
You may review each provider's own privacy policy for details of how they handle data on their systems; our agreements are designed so their processing aligns with the purposes described here.
We retain information only as long as needed to provide the App, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data and how you use the App. You may request deletion of certain data as described below, subject to legal or legitimate business requirements.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we encourage you to use the App responsibly and avoid sharing sensitive information you are not comfortable processing through online services.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also be able to control permissions such as microphone access through your device settings. To exercise rights or ask questions, contact us using the email below.
Echo is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
Your information may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law.
